Cyber Threat Perception Report

Updated: Jul 2

The digitisation process is evolving all around the world. Constant and rapid digitalisation has exposed various sectors, from businesses to defence industries to the threat of cyber security issues.  In such a case, the cyber-security capabilities require a new approach where various sectors consider the operations surrounding espionage, surveillance, information control and technology competition and develop measures to detect and defend against cyber threats through acceptable norms and standards.

Therefore, the report has detailed coverage of how cyber-security attacks have affected businesses, the latest conflicts, the defence sector, and its implications for India. Recently, cyber-attacks have affected India’s critical infrastructure facilities.

As per the Harvard National Cyber Power Index of 2022, India remains one of the top targets of cyber-attack operations.

The key highlights of the report are as follows:

  • Increased attacks on small-scale businesses in the cyber domain have led to widespread financial losses, making companies lose reputations.

  • Low-profit margins of small-scale businesses have deterred them from taking adequate measures to defend against cyber threats in India.

  • State and non-state actors utilise cyberspace to indoctrinate the masses and use Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks to target domains of public importance.

  • Cyber attack operations have also expanded to include defence operations in various countries. India is no exception. The cyber attacks involved the communication networks, weapon systems and sensitive data from the Indian military. The report intends to explore the threats and measures the Indian military has utilised to strengthen cyber protection mechanisms.
