INQUIRY:
AN INTELLECTUAL
As we reflect on the second edition of the NATO-India Youth Conference, held on 8 March 2026 at The Grand in New Delhi, we look back on an afternoon that deepened what the inaugural edition began. Diplomats, generals, NATO officials, parliamentarians, and over a hundred young strategists from across continents gathered around questions that no single capital or alliance can answer alone, and the conversation that followed is worth building an institution around.
This is what The Geostrata was built to create. Infrastructure for thinking. Not a conference that talks about the next generation, but one where that generation sits in the room while an ambassador speaks from lived experience about what deterrence means when it is personal, while a general lays out a vision for India's strategic posture that is both sovereign and clear eyed, and while NATO officials and parliamentarians explain what partnership looks like when formal alliance is off the table but shared threats are not. The room held people who disagreed on first principles and chose to stay in the conversation anyway. That is rarer than it sounds, and it is precisely the kind of space this Conference exists to protect.
Two panel discussions moved across the terrain that defines this era. The vulnerability of undersea cables and critical infrastructure that entire economies and militaries depend on but few legal frameworks adequately protect. The challenge of governing artificial intelligence when the terminology itself becomes obsolete between drafting and enactment. The question of whether democracies can move at the speed their own technologies demand while competing against systems that feel no obligation to ask permission. And running through all of it, the older question that refuses to go away, how India and NATO find a working relationship that respects strategic autonomy on one side and collective commitment on the other, without letting that difference become an excuse for standing still.
As we share photographs from this gathering, we invite you to revisit the moments of a Conference that is becoming, year by year, exactly what it set out to be.
