Iran has always held a pivotal power role in the Middle East for time immemorial. The 1979 revolution, was a landmark in the nation's history as it questioned the very future of the people. This was achieved by two prominent and contrasting discourses: reformism and revolution.

This report will delve into drawing out the stark distinctions between the two by discussing the ideologies of some of the greatest and most influential thinkers of the time.
It will be very evident through their various works how the reformists or liberals strived to create a strong distinction between Islam and governance.
Further striving for equality in all fields of society and freedom, especially for the media. All this was to be achieved through a gradual change, while on the contrary, the revolutionaries struggled for a complete overhaul of the pre-existing state and established an authoritarian theocracy that would act as a symbol or rejection of any Western ideology.
Many thinkers across Iranian borders drove this power struggle. Such minds captivated and influenced all sects of the population. Furthermore, along with such highly polarised extremists, some moderates were able to mitigate this volatile revolution.
